I'll probably keep it installed until the nex map release in February, then take another look at the process. On the other hand, I get nervous when things happen automatically, without my expressed written permission (as they say about retransmitting baseball games), so I'm undecided.

Part of me says that since the update did go smoothly, and Express now knows that I'm at the latest and greatest release of maps and other s/w, maybe I should just keep using it. Well, it's not and once the update started, I was afraid to stop it, so I let it finish. I probably could have avoided the reinstall, but I wanted to see if Express is smart enough to see that I was already at the highest map level. I kicked off the program just to try it, and before I knew it, it was reinstalling the 2013.30 NA maps that were already current. Would you use this program again if you had a choice? Seems strange to me that, that is what they call a back-up. I know what you meant, but the back up it does is more of a personal nature, which I do not want on their site. I'm now renaming a folder at a time and restoring it to see what shows up. I am just starting some restore tests, I renamed the GPX folder on my nuvi 1450LMT and it restored a new one complete with all files and archives no problem. But I am usually at the latest FW and maps on all units so it works for me. This also would not be a true backup for anyone who choses not to update their devices to the latest firmware. They only backup the files they can't reproduce.

I'm saying they already have all the device program and data files for your device on their website and can download them back to your device any time if needed. I'm not saying they backup anything from your device to their website. Can you imagine how big their server would have to be and the repercussions if it lost your data? I found the log file and in there it told me where the back-up went.ĭidn't go to no Garmin site. Why would I want that? Why would you want that? It's your poi's and favs it backs-up and some other small file, can't remember what it was. It may be possible that it doesn't backup data or program files that it can restore from its website when connected to the internet.
Its underĬ:\Users\your name\Documents\Garmin\Backups\ Had to check how the back-up function works and what it backs up. Kinda scrolled through it, and if it does exactly as the menu's say, i'll use it.
